You mention adding butter but there is no quantity for butter listed in the ingredients. Also, should you score the top with diagonal cuts before putting in the oven?

I frequently bake gluten free cakes and I use Doves Farm gluten free white flour with great success. Please let me know how your cakes turn out. X

I have to be gluten free so I will try these with gluten free flour and hopefully all will be well and delicious:)

It is such a pretty pink, in fact for a celebration edible glitter could be sprayed over the pink to make it sparkle. Xx

Comment on Perfect Butter Shortcrust Pastry by Sammie http://feastingisfun.com/2016/05/perfect-butter-shortcrust-pastry/#comment-2500 Fri, 09 Aug 2019 11:30:23 +0000 http://feastingisfun.com/?p=4553#comment-2500 Hi Loraine, that’s an interesting question! It really depends on the type of tart you are baking. First of all, I always pre bake tarts, even if it’s only a few minutes, as this helps set the pastry structure and stop it from getting soggy. For fruit tarts (and pies) I quite often toss the fruit in cornflour (corn starch) before placing them into a tart. Alternatively a layer of ground almonds underneath the fruit will help absorb excess fruit juices when baking. I hope this helps? Sammie.

Comment on Victoria Sponge Cake by Sammie http://feastingisfun.com/2014/11/victoria-sponge-cake/#comment-2495 Mon, 29 Jul 2019 14:04:14 +0000 http://feastingisfun.com/?p=409#comment-2495 I’m sorry to hear that your cake sank Ian. The primary reasons that could cause this are; either opening the oven door too early during the baking process, or the cake not being baked for long enough. When fully baked you should be able to press both sponges lightly in the centre and they should spring back. I hope this has helped for next time you try baking a Victoria sponge. Also I would add that the oven door shouldn’t be opened until the minimum baking temperature (in this case 35 min) has elapsed.
